Education for the Transition to Sustainable Agrifood Systems in South America
The EduSAF project seeks to improve university training in sustainable agrifood systems in South America. Through collaboration between European and Latin American universities, curricula will be updated to incorporate crucial topics such as environmental impact, new technologies, and resilience to climate change. The aim is to train professionals capable of leading the transition towards greener and more sustainable food systems in the region.
Background and general objectives
Sustainable agrifood systems are critical to avoiding climate-induced social and ecological disasters. A comprehensive redesign of food production, processing, distribution and consumption circuits is needed, supported by coordinated education and research efforts. However, the curricula of many South American universities do not include crucial aspects to address the ecological transition.
EduSAF aims to ensure that training, research, and knowledge-sharing on agrifood systems lead to ecological and sustainable improvements that contribute to food security, employability, and to the reduction of environmental degradation, by incorporating technological tools.
